how best to vacuum

Vacuuming regularly with a good vacuum cleaner is important to minimize dust and keep house clean. Vacuuming regularly also reduces wear and tear on carpets, floors and upholstery. Whether using canister vacuums or upright vacuums, there are a few steps to follow in order to vacuum efficiently with peak results.
Before vacuuming, it is advisable to pick up larger debris or small, hard objects. This is to prevent damage to the hose and filter through blockage. These hard items might even damage the motor, which then requires expensive repair.
Start with the ceiling, followed by the walls, windows, doors, blinds, drapes, lamps, radiators, bookshelves, upholstery, furniture surfaces, floors and lastly, the carpets.
For easier maneuverability of the machine, it might be better to take smaller movable items such as chairs, waste paper baskets for example, out of the room.
Carpets are best vacuumed at least once a week. High-traffic areas are preferably vacuum daily using a lightweight canister vacuum.
Upright vacuums with their beater brush or canister vacuums with turbo brushes or power nozzles, give the best results on carpets and rugs. The brush agitates the carpet fibers, loosening the dirt for sucking up by the strong suction. The nozzle needs to be adjusted depending on the thickness of the carpet's pile so that it is in close contact with the pile. Too low makes pushing the vacuum difficult whereas too high results in air entering above the carpet and dirt embedded deep in the carpet would not be loosened and sucked up properly.
For maximum results, it is best to move vacuum slowly over the carpet in a few passes over each area in overlapping parallel moves. Areas in front of sofas and chairs normally tends to be dirtier and needs more thorough vacuuming.
Beater brush is not suitable for bare floors as scratches may result due to the aggressive action of the brushes. It is better to use a floor brush. Bare floor brush is also ideal for low pile carpets or braided rugs as it is more gentle, compared to the harsh, spinning brushes of the power nozzle.
Delicate soft furnishings, curtains and stairs fare better with an upholstery tool designed specifically for such usage. It can also used on car interiors or mattresses with good results.
The dust brush used on walls and ceiling with the adjustable extension wand, clears off spiders and their webs with impressive results. Works great on bookshelves, furniture crevices or lighting fixtures too.
Edges of carpets, tight corners and hard-to-reach places are best cleaned using the crevice tool. It can also be used to clean window tracks or refrigerator grills.
It is advisable to change or empty a dust bag before it becomes too full as a full bag will reduce the suction power of the vacuum, leading to inefficient vacuuming. Bristles in nozzle do become clogged with lint, hair, threads or fibers. These need to be removed as they will affect the spinning action of the brushes. If brushes cannot spin properly, dirt cannot be thoroughly loosened and removed.
The more on-board tools the vacuum has, the more efficient the cleaning with more time and effort saved. Decide on the list of items you need to clean regularly, then only select and buy the best vacuum cleaner with the most attachments suited to your needs.

how to clean childs urine from your carpet

Potty training is a challenging time for both parents and children. If your child doesn't make it to the toilet and pees in the carpet as an accident, it may make him feel embarrassed. There are easy ways to clean urine from carpet that will help you not only remove the bad odor but also feel less stressed about the situation and more apt to support your child during his learning process.

Step 1

Fill a cup with lukewarm water and spill it on the area that has your child's urine. This will dilute the urine and also make it easier to soak it up if it is already drry Step 2

Place a thick towel over the wet carpet and apply pressure by stepping firmly on it or using your hands while applying most of your body weight as you do so. This will help absorb the water and urine. You can later wash your towel with laundry detergent and bleach if the towel is white. Paper towels can work as an alternative although they will not soak up as much liquid as a towel will, and you may end up wasting a lot of paper towels in the process.

Step 3

Apply a pet urine cleaning detergent to the area to wash out the urine. Detergents made to clean pet urine have enzymes that break down pet urine odors and work just as well on human urine. You can find them at any pet store in your area.

Step 4

Rinse out the detergent with lukewarm water and repeat the process of soaking up the liquid with a clean towel.

Step 5

Mix 1/2 cup of white vinegar with 1/2 cup of water and sprinkle it along with a pinch of baking soda to the area you have treated to help remove any remaining smells and remove detergent residues, suggests the website Good Housekeeping.

Step 6

Use another clean and dry towel to soak up any remaining liquid to speed up the drying process of your carpet.

Step 7

Place a fan directly on the area treated to dry it completely. Alternately you can use a blow dryer if you have time to hold it while the carpet dries, or leave a window open.

Step 8

Wash all your towels immediately so they don't retain any urine smells.

how often do you need to get your carpets cleaned

Cleaning Carpets

How Often Do You Need To Get Your Carpets Cleaned?

After investing in carpeting in your home it is necessary to know how to take care of it not only for appearances sake but for longevity of the carpets. Just vacuuming your carpets is not enough although it is a necessity. Carpet, no matter what type, holds everything inside of it from dust, hair, mites, odors and of course dirt and stains. Each carpet will need to be cleaned differently depending on several things. For instance you wouldn't want to handle a cheaply made carpet as often as you could a wool rug. Each time a carpet is cleaned it gets broken down a little and so it is important to know the quality of the carpets to be cleaned before actually doing it.
Carpet Cleaning SteamIf you live alone with nothing other than normal environmental factors to dirty your carpets, cleaning them once a year should be sufficient. If you smoke, have pets or children or if the carpet is in a high traffic area it should be cleaned every six to nine months depending on how exposed it is. If you live in a dusty or a humid area it can have an effect on your carpets cleanliness. Even if it seems there is nothing in your home to dirty the carpets you must remember all of the invisible invaders which are in your carpet. If for no other reason than a healthier environment, have the carpets cleaned annually.
If you happen to live in a home with kids, pets and smokers it is recommended that you have the carpets cleaned as often as every three months, assuming that the grade of carpet can withstand such frequency. You may be able to clean them less frequently if you have more hard surfaced floors than carpets, taking the brunt of traffic and usage.
Keep in mind that there are different methods of carpet cleaning which offer different purposes such as general upkeep or a thorough deep cleansing. There are hot water extraction methods, all electric methods and various steaming methods for steam carpet cleaning. In any carpet cleaning method it is vital to extract the most amount of moisture possible. This will prevent water staining, bleaching and mold formations underneath the surfaces.
In between the carpet cleanings vacuuming should be done as frequently as possible. This prevents dirt and dust from being ground down into the fibers and matting of the carpet. By keeping it off of the surface it becomes significantly easier to super clean it later.
All carpets which you purchase should come with manufactures instructions for cleaning. By keeping these instructions available to you and discussing any concerns with a professional carpet cleaning technician you should be able to keep your carpets beautiful and healthy for your environment for a very long time.

why hire a professional carpet cleaner

Even with constant care and going out of your way to avoid major spills and damage, at some point, every home owner is likely to need a carpet cleaner.
While most people have a variety of tools on hand for treating their flooring, from vacuum cleaners to spot removal machines to a cabinet full of spray-and-wash detergents, most common remedies do not offer the deep cleaning that your rugs will sporadically need. Even when cleaned regularly, the fibers latch on to hair, dust, dirt, and food particles, dragging those particles deep into the fiber's surface.
Many homeowners choose to rent a deep cleaning machine, which can be an effective solution, particularly if you're living in an apartment, or your home only has a few carpeted areas. However, these machines are often more difficult and time-consuming to operate than the consumer expects, and may also require the purchase of solution to run the machine properly. It's fairly common for people to realize they haven't saved much money over hiring a professional, and have quickly grown tired and frustrated by the amount of effort required to perform the maintenance at home.
Most carpet cleaning companies bring all the required tools to your home, and will even take on the responsibility of moving your heavy furniture and other large items during the process. It is recommended, however, that the client vacuum the carpets thoroughly and move any small or personal items that may be in the area to be cleaned. It's also essential to keep any pets in another room or area during the process.
If you're renting a home, apartment, or condominium, hiring a professional carpet cleaner is often a wonderful idea. While there are many deep-cleaning machines you can rent to handle do-it-yourself jobs, after a year or two of normal wear and tear, the only way you're likely to get thoroughly clean and professional rugs is to hire a professional. Damage to the carpet is one of the top reasons landlords and leasing companies give for refusing to refund a renter's security deposit.
If you have pets living in the home, you can virtually forget about it, since many complexes will choose to completely replace the carpet rather than attempt to clean flooring that's become matted with hair or dirt. However, in many cases, it's possible to rescue pet-exposed rugs with proper treatment from a professional cleaner, also rescuing your security deposit. In most cases, the cost of hiring experts is much less than the cost of forfeiting your deposit.
